From 2022, all new trucks in Europe must be equipped with a blind spot system. From 2024, this requirement will also apply to existing trucks. It is part of a long-term goal of the European Union to reduce the number of road deaths and serious injuries to almost zero by 2050.
In addition to a blind spot system, new trucks next year will also have to be equipped with a system that warns of drowsiness and that warns if the driver is distracted by the mobile phone. New trucks will also have to be equipped with reversing protection with camera or sensors as standard. They will also need to have a data recorder (black box) on board. Data can be extracted from this in the event of an accident.
